Custom Methodologies

1. The figures and the list

“Total Methodologies” counts them all; “Active”, those in use; “Private”, those only their creator sees; “Public/Templates”, those shared with the whole company and the system templates.

When there are methodologies, each row shows the name, the type (private, public or system template), the category, the number of factors, the score range and the status. “Filters” narrows the list by status, visibility or category and “Export to Excel” downloads it.

2. Creating a methodology

Click “Create Methodology”. The wizard has five steps:

1. “Basic Information”: “Name”, “Description”, “Category”, “Recommended For” and the box “Make this methodology public”.

2. “Factors”: with “Add Factor” you define each factor (for example probability, severity, exposure) with its data type and its minimum, maximum and default values.

3. “Formula”: combine the factors by name (for example probabilidad * gravedad * exposicion) and check it with “Test Formula”.

4. “Risk thresholds”: the minimum and maximum score of each risk level.

5. “Review”: go over everything and save.

3. Maintaining methodologies

From each row you can edit a methodology, “Activate” or “Deactivate” it (this changes whether it counts in “Active”), “Clone” an existing one to start from it under another name, or delete it. Cloning is how you adapt a public template without touching the original.

4. Where they are used, and permissions

Today the Risk Assessments wizard only offers the system methodologies (INSST 3×3, 5x5 matrix, Fine & Kinney, NTP 330 and the advanced ones); a methodology created here cannot yet be chosen from any screen to score a risk.

Creating, editing or deleting methodologies requires write permission. By default the prevention module is open to editors and administrators; a read-only user sees the notice “This module is switched off”.
